Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Removal

J 42386-A - Flywheel Holding Tool





Note: Make sure the J 42386-A - flywheel holding tool (1) engages securely with the ring gear teeth.

1. Install the J 42386-A - flywheel holding tool (1) using the two starter motor to engine block retaining bolts (2).





Note: Bolts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.

2. Remove and discard the automatic transmission flex plate to crankshaft retaining bolts (2).

3. Remove the automatic transmission flex plate (1) from the crankshaft.

Note: Make sure all the automatic transmission flex plate to crankshaft retaining bolt hole threads on the crankshaft are thoroughly cleaned of any micro-encapsulated thread sealant.

4. Clean the automatic transmission flex plate to crankshaft retaining bolt hole threads on the crankshaft.




5. Remove the starter motor to engine block retaining bolts (2).

6. Remove the J 42386-A - flywheel holding tool (1).
