98. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Installation




Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Installation

Special Tools

J 42386-A - Flywheel Holding Tool.




1. Install the automatic transmission flex plate (1) to the crankshaft (5).

2. Align the alignment hole on the automatic transmission flex plate (3) with the alignment hole in the crankshaft (4).

Note: Do not tighten at this stage.

3. Install the NEW automatic transmission flex plate to crankshaft retaining bolts (2).





Note: Make sure the J 42386-A - flywheel holding tool (1) engages securely with the ring gear teeth.

4. Install the J 42386-A - flywheel holding tool (1) using the two starter motor to engine block retaining bolts (2).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

5. Tighten the automatic transmission flex plate to crankshaft retaining bolts (1) in sequence from 1 to 6.

1. Tighten the bolts (1 - 6) a first pass in sequence to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

2. Tighten the bolts (1 - 6) a second pass in sequence to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).

3. Tighten the bolts (1 - 6) a final pass in sequence to 100 Nm (74 lb ft).




6. Remove the starter motor to engine block retaining bolts (2).

7. Remove the J 42386-A - flywheel holding tool (1).
