Water Pump: Service and Repair




Water Pump Replacement (LS3/L99)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Resonator and Outlet Duct Replacement Air Cleaner Resonator and Outlet Duct Replacement.

2. Drain the cooling system. 3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Accessory (LS3 or L99) Service and RepairDrive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Accessory (LSA) Service and Repair.

4. Remove the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement (L99 or LS3) Service and RepairDrive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement (LSA Upper) Service and RepairDrive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement (LSA Lower) Service and Repair.

5. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the water pump. 6. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the water pump. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LS3, L99) Radiator Outlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LSA) Radiator Outlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LFX) Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement.

7. Disconnect the heater inlet and outlet hose from the water pump. Refer to Heater Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement (LS3, L99) Service and RepairHeater Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement (LSA) Service and Repair.





8. Remove the water pump to block bolts (1).

Note:
Always clean the water pump and engine block mating surfaces and discard the gaskets.

9. Remove the water pump (2).

Installation Procedure





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

Note:
Always install a NEW water pump gasket.

1. Install the water pump (2) to the engine block and tighten the bolts (1) to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).

2. Connect the heater inlet and outlet hose to the water pump. Refer to Heater Inlet And Outlet Pipe Replacement.

3. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the water pump. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LS3, L99) Radiator Outlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LSA) Radiator Outlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LFX) Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement.

4. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the water pump. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LS3) Radiator Inlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Inlet Hose Replacement (L99) Radiator Inlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LSA) Radiator Inlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LFX) Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement.

5. Install the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement (L99 or LS3) Service and RepairDrive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement (LSA Upper) Service and RepairDrive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement (LSA Lower) Service and Repair.

6. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Accessory (LS3 or L99) Service and RepairDrive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Accessory (LSA) Service and Repair.

7. Fill the cooling system. 8. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair.
