Trailer Brake Control Relay Replacement (2500, 3500 Pickup)

Removal Procedure

1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.

Note: Do not remove the spare wheel hoist.

2. Remove the spare tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Spare Wheel Hoist Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).




4. Disconnect the trailer brake control module and trailer brake control relay electrical connectors.
5. Loosen, but do not remove, the trailer brake control module bracket bolts (1).
6. Slide the trailer brake control module bracket toward the right of the vehicle and remove assembly from the vehicle.




7. Loosen, but do not remove, the trailer brake control relay bolts (1).




8. Slide the trailer brake control relay (1) to remove the relay from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

1. If installing a new trailer brake control relay, partially install the 2 trailer brake control relay bolts.




2. Install the trailer brake control relay (1) to the bracket.
3. Slide the trailer brake control module relay in the bracket until the relay bolts are resting against the back of the bracket slotted holes.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Tighten the trailer brake control relay bolts (1) to 6 Nm (53 lb in).




5. Install the trailer brake control module and relay bracket assembly to the frame.
6. Slide the trailer brake control module bracket assembly fully into the slotted holes of the vehicle frame.
7. Tighten the trailer brake control module bracket bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
8. Connect the trailer brake control module and trailer brake control relay electrical connectors.
9. Install the spare tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Spare Wheel Hoist Replacement (Service and Repair).
