Compressor Clutch Coil: Service and Repair




Air Conditioning Clutch Coil Replacement (4.3L)

J 33027-A - A/C Clutch Hub Holder

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.3L) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.3L)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L).

2. Use the J 33027-A - holder to keep the clutch drive assembly from turning.

3. Remove the clutch plate retaining bolt (1).

4. Remove the clutch plate assembly (2) with shims (3).

5. Remove the clutch hub/bearing snap ring (4).

6. Remove the clutch hub/bearing assembly (5).

7. Remove the clutch coil connector bracket retaining screw (9).

8. Remove the clutch coil snap ring (6).

9. Remove the clutch coil assembly (7).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the coil assembly (7) to the compressor (8).

2. Install the coil snap ring (6).

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the coil connector retaining bracket screw (9) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

4. Install the clutch hub/bearing assembly (5).

5. Install the clutch hub/bearing snap ring (4).





6. Install the clutch plate assembly (2) with shims (3).

Note:
Ensure the drive plate does not drag against the pulley when the pulley is rotated.

7. Measure the air gap between the pulley and the drive plate. Adjust the shims (3) to achieve a 0.35-0.65 mm (0.014-0.026 in) air gap.

8. Install the clutch plate retaining bolt and tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb ft).

9. Hold the clutch drive plate and hub assembly with the J 33027-A - holder.

10. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.3L) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.3L)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L).
