Timing Chain & Sprockets - Removal






REMOVAL

WARNING: On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, you must thoroughly read and follow all High Voltage Safety procedures. In addition, before performing any diagnostic or service procedure near a high voltage component, you must perform the High Voltage Power Down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury Service Precautions

1. Perform the high voltage power down procedure Battery System - High Voltage Power Down




2. Disconnect the 12 volt battery system ground isolation connector (1).





3. Drain the cooling system.
4. Remove the timing chain cover Engine Timing Cover(s) - Removal
5. Remove the oil pump retaining bolts (2) and remove the oil pump (1).





6. Install the vibration damper bolt finger tight. Using a suitable socket and breaker bar, rotate the crankshaft to align timing chain sprockets and keyways as shown.





7. Retract the tensioner shoe (1) with pliers (2) until the hole in shoe lines up with the hole in bracket.





8. Install the Tensioner Pin 8514 (1) into the holes.
9. Remove the timing chain tensioner retaining bolts (3) and remove the timing chain tensioner (2).
10. Inspect the timing chain tensioner and replace as necessary.





11. Remove the timing chain guide (1) retaining bolts (2) and remove the timing chain guide.
12. Inspect the timing chain guide and replace as necessary.





13. Remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt (1) and remove the timing chain with the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.
14. Inspect the timing chain, camshaft and crankshaft sprockets and replace as necessary.
