Steering Gear - Removal






REMOVAL

NOTE:
The steering column on vehicles with an automatic transmission may not be equipped with an internal locking shaft that allows the ignition key cylinder to be locked with the key. Alternative methods of locking the steering wheel for service will have to be used.





1. Lock the steering wheel.

2. Disconnect battery cables.

3. Raise and support the vehicle.

4. Remove and discard the steering coupler pinch bolt.





5. Disconnect electrical connector (1) at EPS.

6. Remove the front tires and wheels.

7. Remove the outer tie rod nuts and separate outer tie rods (3) from the knuckles (5) using Ball Joint Remover (8677).

NOTE:
4wd model shown. 2wd model similar.

8. If equipped, remove the skid plate Skid Plate - Removal.





9. Remove the EPS mounting bolts (1) and remove the EPS from the vehicle.
