Symptom Troubleshooting: Rearview camera image does not come on or work properly
Rearview camera image does not come on or work properly
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check any official Honda service website for more service information about the navigation system.
- Check for the correct color DVD (Turquoise) and software version. The wrong DVD or software version may affect the rearview camera function.
- A short in the wiring to the rearview camera can permanently damage the audio-navigation unit.
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
3. Go into the navigation system diagnostic menu, and check the reverse signal in the car status test.
Does the back-up signal go from OFF (0) to ON (1) when shifter is moved from the park to the reverse positions?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Go to step 4.
4. Turn the ignition to LOCK (0).
5. Disconnect the audio-navigation unit connector C (8P).
6. Turn the ignition to ON (II).
7. Measure the voltage between audio-navigation unit connector C (8P) terminal No. 5 and body ground with the shift lever in the reverse position.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Place the shifter back into the park position and go to step 8.
NO - There is no back-up signal voltage from the back-up light circuit. Place the shifter back into the park position and troubleshoot for open or short in the back-up light circuit.
8. Turn the ignition to LOCK (0).
9. Disconnect navigation unit connector G (7P).
10. Disconnect the rearview camera 12P connector.
11. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector G (7P) and rearview camera 12P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 12.
NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.
12. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector G (7P) and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness. A short in the wire(s) for the rearview camera could permanently damage the audio-navigation unit. Once the short is repaired, recheck the camera operation. If the camera does not work, substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit. Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation) If the symptom goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit.
NO - Go to step 13.
13. Turn the ignition to ON (II).
14. Measure the voltage between audio-navigation unit connector G (7P) and body ground according to the table.
Is there 0.1 V or more?
YES - There is a short to power in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera.
NO - Go to step 15.
15. Turn the ignition to LOCK (0).
16. Check for continuity between terminals of audio-navigation unit connector G (7P) according to the table.
Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES - There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness. A short in the wire(s) for the rearview camera could permanently damage the audio-navigation unit. Once the short in the wire repaired, recheck the camera operation. If the camera does not work, substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit. Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation) If the symptom goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit.
NO - Go to step 17.
17. Reconnect the rearview camera 12P connector.
18. Substitute and connect a known-good audio-navigation unit, Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation) and check the rearview camera image in reverse.
Is the rear view image OK?
YES - Replace the original audio-navigation unit. Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation)
NO - Replace the rearview camera. Service and Repair
