Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014*
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Technician Safety Information before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.

- Take care not to bend and scratch the headliner.

- Be careful not to damage the dashboard and other interior trim.

- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. Remove these items:
- A-pillar trim, both sides Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

- Front seat belt lower anchor:
- Driver's seat belt Front Seat Belt Replacement

- Passenger's seat belt Front Seat Belt Replacement

- B-pillar lower trim, both sides Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

- Front seat belt upper anchor, both sides Front Seat Belt Replacement

- B-pillar upper trim, both sides Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

- Rear seat-back Rear Seat Removal/Installation

- Rear trim panel Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

- Rear seat belt upper anchor, both sides Rear Seat Belt Replacement

- C-pillar trim, both sides Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

- Ceiling light Service and Repair

- Front seat, passenger's side Front Seat Removal/Installation

- Center console Center Console Removal/Installation

2. Release the tabs (A) from both sides of the sunvisor cap (B), using the appropriate trim tool, then release the cap from the bracket (C). Turn the cap and remove it.






3. Remove both sunvisors (A) and holders (B).
-1 Remove the screws.
-2 Remove the sunvisor from the body and holder.
-3 Disconnect the vanity mirror light connector (C).
-4 Using a flat-tip screwdriver, push the hook (D), turn the holder 90 °, then pull it out.






4. Remove the roof console (A).
-1 Remove the lenses (B).
-2 Remove the bolts.
-3 Pull out the roof console and the front individual map light (C).
-4 Disconnect the front individual map light connector (D) and if equipped, the navigation microphone/Homelink unit connector (E).






5. From both sides, remove the coat hangers (A).
-1 Pry down on the cap (B), with a pick tool (C) wrapped in the protective tape, to detach the hooks (D), then remove it.
-2 Remove the screws.






6. Remove the headliner (A).
-1 Remove the front door opening trim (B) and the rear door opening trim (C) from each roof portion.
-2 With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips, and release the fastener (D) and the pin (E) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner down.
-3 Moonroof: Detach the front clips by lowering the headliner.
-4 Release the Velcro fasteners (F) by lowering the headliner.
-5 Lower the headliner, and remove it through the passenger's door opening.

7. If necessary, remove the bolts, then remove the roof console bracket (A).






8. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- If the side curtain airbag has been deployed, replace the headliner and removed trim pieces with new ones. Service and Repair

- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect removed pieces, and replace them if they have any of the following damage:
- Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)

- Any fasteners (B) or clip bases (C) which have come off the headliner

- Any damage around the coat hanger holes (D) or the sunvisor holes (E) in the headliner

- Any deformations in the coat hangers (F)

- Any cracks in the sunvisor stay base (G)

- Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (H)

- Any cracks in the sunvisor base (I)

- Any cracks in the vanity mirror base (J)

- Any deformations in the grab handle bracket

- Replace any damaged parts with new ones.

- Make sure the trim pieces overlaps the headliner correctly Service and Repair

- When passing the headliner through the door opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.

- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the roof.

- If the threads on a sunvisor mounting screw are worn out, use an oversized self-tapping ET screw, P/N 90137-S30-003, made specifically for this application.
