Rear Differential Pressure Test

Rear Differential Pressure Test (KA, KC Models AWD)

Test

NOTE: Before doing the Pressure Test, check the following conditions.
* Check that the real time AWD indicator does not come on. If it does, check for real time AWD system DTC's.
* Check the rear differential fluid level.
* Check for rear differential fluid leaks at the rear differential assembly.

1. HDS DLC - Connection

1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

2. Pressure Test

1. Select DATA LIST in the REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM with the HDS.

2. Select OIL TEMPERATURE FOR REAR DIFFERENTIAL in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

* If the temperature is above 68 °F (20 °C), go to step 3.
* If the temperature is below 68 °F (20 °C), drive the vehicle to warm up the rear differential until the fluid temperature reaches at least 68 °F (20 °C), then go to step 3.

3. Start the engine.

4. Select FUNCTIONAL TEST in the REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM with the HDS.

5. Select OIL PRESSURE CONTROL TEST in the FUNCTIONAL TEST with the HDS.

6. Look at the results displayed on the HDS.

* If Normal is displayed, test is completed.
* If 1-1 is displayed, go to step 7.
* If 2-1 and 5-1 is displayed: Go to step 21.
* If 3-1 is displayed: Go to step 35.
* If 4-1 and 6-1 is displayed: Go to step 49.

7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

8. Disconnect the rear differential fluid pressure sensor connector.

9. Remove the rear differential fluid pressure sensor.

10. Reconnect the rear differential fluid pressure sensor connector.

11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

12. Select the DATA LIST in the REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM with the HDS.

13. Check the ACTUAL OIL PRESSURE OF THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR FOR REAR DIFFERENTIAL in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

* If the fluid pressure is higher than 0-77 kPa (0.0-0.8 kgf/cm2 , 0-11 psi), replace the rear differential fluid pressure sensor.
* If the fluid pressure is within the range of 0-77 kPa (0.0-0.8 kgf/cm2, 0-11 psi), go to step 14.

14. Replace the rear differential fluid.

15. Do the real time AWD system bleeding with the HDS Procedures.

16. Start the engine.

17. Select FUNCTIONAL TEST in the REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM with the HDS.

18. Select OIL PRESSURE CONTROL TEST in the FUNCTIONAL TEST with the HDS.

19. Look at the results displayed on the HDS.

* If Normal is displayed, test is completed.
* If 1-1 is displayed: Go to step 20.

20. Do the rear differential fluid pressure sensor test with the HDS Rear Differential Fluid Pressure Sensor Test. If the rear differential fluid pressure sensor test is OK, replace the rear differential assembly.

21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

22. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

23. Do the real time AWD system bleeding with the HDS Procedures.

24. Start the engine.

25. Select FUNCTIONAL TEST in the REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM with the HDS.

26. Select OIL PRESSURE CONTROL TEST in the FUNCTIONAL TEST with the HDS.

27. Look at the results displayed on the HDS.

* If Normal is displayed, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time, test is completed.
* If 2-1 and 5-1 is displayed: Go to step 28.

28. Replace the rear differential fluid.

29. Do the real time AWD system bleeding with the HDS Procedures.

30. Start the engine.

31. Select FUNCTIONAL TEST in the REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM with the HDS.

32. Select OIL PRESSURE CONTROL TEST in the FUNCTIONAL TEST with the HDS.

33. Look at the results displayed on the HDS.

* If Normal is displayed, test is completed.
* If 2-1 and 5-1 is displayed: Go to step 34.

34. Do the rear differential fluid pressure sensor test Rear Differential Fluid Pressure Sensor Test and the rear differential solenoid valve test Testing and Inspection with the HDS. If the rear differential fluid pressure sensor test and the rear differential solenoid valve test is OK, replace the rear differential assembly.

35. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

36. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

37. Do the real time AWD system bleeding with the HDS Procedures.

38. Start the engine.

39. Select FUNCTIONAL TEST in the REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM with the HDS.
