Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the headliner, the dashboard, or the other interior trim.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

2. Remove these items:

- A-pillar upper/lower trims, both sides
- B-pillar upper/lower trims, both sides
- C-pillar trims, both sides
- D-pillar trims, both sides
- Sunvisors, both sides Service and Repair
- Grab handles, four places Service and Repair
- Display cover
- With Ultrawide RES
- With RES

3. Remove the roof console (A).

1. Remove the lenses (B).

2. Remove the screws (C), and pull out the front individual map light (D).

3. Disconnect the front individual map light connector (E) and the moonroof switch connector (F) (for some models).

4. Remove the screws (G), and pull down the front side of the console, then release the hooks (H).

5. For some models: Disconnect the HomeLink unit connector (I) and the microphone connector (J).





4. With automatic dimming mirror: Remove the rearview mirror harness cover. Disconnect the connector from the rearview mirror, and release the wire harness from the rearview mirror harness cover base.

5. Detach the harness clips (A), and remove the ground bolt (B), then disconnect the moonroof motor connector (C).






6. Remove the roof wire harnesses (A) from both A-pillars.

1. Disconnect the roof wire harness connectors (B) and the washer tube (C) (passenger's side).

2. Detach the harness clips (D).

7. Remove all of the roof outlets (A) (four places).

1. Open the maintenance cap (B), and remove the screw.

2. Pull out the front side of the roof outlet to detach the clip.

3. Release the hooks (C).

4. Pull the roof outlet forward to release the hook (D).

5. Disconnect the map light connector (E) and the rear A/C control panel connector (F) (for some models).

NOTE: The second row roof outlets are shown; the third row roof outlets are similar.

8. Disconnect the roof wire harness connectors:

- With Ultrawide RES
- With RES

9. Pull out the second seat belt cover (A) to detach the clips.






10. From the left side rear corner area, disconnect the roof wire harness connector (A).






11. For some models: From the right side rear corner area, detach the harness clips (A, B, C, D) securing the roof wire harness (E), and detach the connector clip (F).






12. From the rear center area, disconnect the washer tube (A).






13. With the help of an assistant, lower the headliner (A).

1. Remove the front door opening seals (B) and sliding door weatherstrip (C) as needed.

2. Detach the clips (D) by pulling down the rear area of the headliner.

3. Gently pull down the headliner opening to detach the clips (E), and release the fasteners (F) and the magnet(s) (G) by lowering the headliner.

14. With the help of an assistant, pull the headliner (A) along with the wire harnesses out through the tailgate opening.

NOTE: Do not bend the headliner. Bending the headliner will crease and damage it.






15. If necessary, remove the cushion tapes and the harness clips (A) fastening the roof wire harnesses (B) and washer tube to the headliner (C).

16. If necessary, remove the front grab handle bracket (A) and the rear grab handle bracket (B). Take care not to damage the side curtain airbag.

1. Rear grab handle bracket: Detach the harness clips (C).

2. Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolts (D).

3. Release the clips (E) holding the grab handle bracket to the side curtain airbag.

17. If the roof console screw grommets (A) are stripped or damaged, replace them by pinching in on the hooks (B).





18. If the map light screw clips (C) are stripped or damaged, replace them by pushing in on the hooks (D).

19. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the headliner and removed trim pieces, along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment Service and Repair.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the headliner and all removed trim. Replace any pieces with the following damage:
- Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)
- Any cracks or breakage in the grab handle (B)
- Any damages around the grab handle holes (C) or the sunvisor holes (D) in the headliner
- Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket (E)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket cover (F)
- Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (G)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor base (H)
- Any cracks or breakage in the vanity mirror base (I)
- Any fasteners (J), stiffeners (K), magnets (L), or clip bases (M) which have come off the headliner

- When installing the grab handle, push on the handle against the bracket (N) until the clips (O) snap into place securely.
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Replace the removed cushion tapes with new ones.
- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the body.
- Make sure the headliner overlaps the trim pieces correctly.
- When reinstalling the headliner through the tailgate opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
- Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
