Electrical Compass Troubleshooting

NOTE: Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.

1. Check the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/ relay box.

Is the fuse OK?

YES -

Go to step 2.

NO -

Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No.10 (7.5A) fuse circuit.

2. Check that the electrical compass unit 6P connector is properly connected.

Is the connector properly connected?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Reconnect the connector, and recheck.

3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

4. Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No.1 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No.1 and the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/ relay box.

5. Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground (G601).

6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

7. Disconnect audio unit connector D (20P) and the electrical compass 6P connector.

8. Check for continuity between body ground and the electrical compass unit 6P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit.

NO -

Go to step 9.

9. Check for continuity between the electrical compass unit 6P connector and audio unit connector D(20P) according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good electrical compass unit Service and Repair, and recheck.
If the symptom/Indication goes away, replace the original electrical compass unit Service and Repair.
If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire(s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit.
