Removal

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

2. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL RH

3. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER

5. SEPARATE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

6. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH

7. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM COVER SIDE

8. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

9. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

10. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT

11. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE MOUNTING STAY RH

12. REMOVE ENGINE MOVING CONTROL ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY

13. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING STAY RH

(a) Remove the bolt and engine mounting stay RH.

14. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET FRONT LH

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the return tube sub-assembly.
(b) Remove the 6 bolts and No. 1 engine mounting bracket front LH.

15. REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 bolts, 2 idler pulley cover plates and 2 idler pulley sub-assemblies.

16. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING

(a) Disconnect the water hose.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts, nut and water inlet housing.

(a) Remove the bolt and V-ribbed belt tensioner pulley and dust shield.

NOTICE:
Do not turn the bolt labeled "L" counterclockwise. Store the V-ribbed belt tensioner pulley so that the bearing does not get damaged.

18. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY

19. SEPARATE WATER PUMP PULLEY

(a) Using SST, hold the water pump pulley.

(b) Using SST and union nut wrench, remove the 4 bolts and separate the water pump pulley from the water pump. SST: 09961-00950

HINT:
There is not enough clearance to completely remove the water pump pulley from the water pump shaft. Remove the water pump pulley together with the water pump.

20. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 16 bolts, water pump assembly and water pump gasket.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY
(a) Visually check the drain hole and air hole for coolant leakage.
(b) Turn the pulley, and check that the water pump bearing moves smoothly and noiselessly.
If the bearing does not move smoothly and noiselessly, replace the water pump.
