Roof Opening Panel

Pinpoint Test G: The Global Open Function is Inoperative - MKX

NOTE: The global open feature may be enabled/disabled via scan tool or in some cases modified by the customer following a procedure listed in the Owner's Literature. For a complete list of available programmable parameters, refer to the Module Configuration and Parameter Chart in Information Bus. Module Configuration

Normal Operation

When the global open feature is activated, the Body Control Module (BCM) sends a signal to the roof opening sliding glass panel motor to open the roof opening sliding glass panel when a global open request has been received from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. When the roof opening sliding glass panel motor receives the global open request, the shade panels automatically move to the fully OPEN position (if shades are not already fully open), followed by the sliding glass panel moving to the VENT position. The global open feature is inoperative if the accessory delay relay is active.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Roof opening panel motor(s) not initialized

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Roof opening sliding glass panel motor

- Door glass motor

- BCM (Body Control Module)

- RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitters

PINPOINT TEST G : THE GLOBAL OPEN FUNCTION IS INOPERATIVE - MKX

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

NOTE: One-touch open must be operational for the global open function to operate correctly. Make sure the one-touch open is operational before proceeding with this diagnostic.

G1 VERIFY THE POWER WINDOWS ARE OPERATIONAL

- Operate the power windows using the global open procedure.

Do the power windows operate correctly?

Yes
GO to G2.

No
REFER to Windows and Glass to diagnose the inoperative windows.

G2 CHECK LH FRONT WINDOW MOTOR

- Remove LH front door window motor BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 1 (30A).

- Operate the power windows using the global open procedure.

Does the roof opening panel operate correctly?

Yes
INSTALL a new LH front window motor. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REINSTALL BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 1 (30A). GO to G3.

G3 CHECK RH FRONT WINDOW MOTOR

- Remove RH front door window motor BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 3 (30A).

- Operate the power windows using the global open procedure.

Does the roof opening panel operate correctly?

Yes
INSTALL a new RH front window motor. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REINSTALL BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 3 (30A). GO to G4.

G4 CHECK GLOBAL OPEN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Disconnect: Roof Opening Panel Motor Assembly C920.

- Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280C.

- Measure the resistance between BCM (Body Control Module) C2280C-25, circuit CPW01 (BN/BU), harness side and roof opening panel motor assembly C920-10, circuit CPW01 (BN/BU) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to G5.

No
REPAIR the circuit. INITIALIZE the roof opening panel motor. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization Programming and Relearning. TEST the system for normal operation.

G5 CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR WIRING HARNESS

- Check the roof opening panel motor wiring harness for loose pins, an open or a short between roof opening panel motor assembly C920-10, circuit CPW01, component side and the roof opening panel sliding glass motor harness connector.

Is the roof opening panel motor wiring harness OK?

Yes
GO to G6.

No
INSTALL a new roof opening panel motor wiring harness. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor Wiring Harness Service and Repair. INITIALIZE the roof opening panel motor. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization Programming and Relearning. TEST the system for normal operation.

G6 CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTORS FOR CORRECT OPERATION

- Disconnect all roof opening panel motor connectors.

- Check for:
- corrosion.

- bent or pushed-out pins.

- Connect all roof opening panel motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
For an inoperative roof opening sliding glass panel motor, INSTALL a new roof opening sliding glass panel motor. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor - Sliding Front Panel Roof Opening Panel Motor - Sliding Front Panel. For an inoperative roof opening panel shade motor, INSTALL a new roof opening panel shade motor. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor - Shade Roof Opening Panel Motor - Shade. INITIALIZE the roof opening panel motor. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization Programming and Relearning. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
