Pinpoint Test 7: The Heated Seat Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly- Driver

PINPOINT TEST 7: THE HEATED SEAT IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - DRIVER - HYBRID

Normal Operation

The dual automatic temperature control (DATC) module contains the driver heated seat control button and indicator. The heated seat system functions independently from the climate control system. A heated seat relay is located underside of the driver seat cushion frame. There are 2 voltage supplies to the heated seat relay. Voltage is supplied from the smart junction box (SJB) heated seat relay enable circuit (GY) to the driver heated seat relay coil when the ignition key is on. Ground is supplied to the opposite side of the relay coil by the DATC module. The driver heated seat relay circuit (W/L) is powered when the driver heated seat switch button is pressed to energize the relay. This closes the relay contacts to supply battery voltage from the battery junction box (BJB) circuit (Y/R) to the driver heated seat element circuit (V/G). The driver heated seat elements are directly connected to ground circuit (B/GY) completing the electrical circuit to heat the seat.

- DTC B12AB (Driver Heated Seat Relay Drive Circuit Shorted to Battery Voltage) - If the driver heated seat relay drive circuit is shorted to voltage and the DATC module attempts to activate the driver heated seat relay, the DTC will set and the seat will fail to heat or intermittently heat.
- DTC B12AC (Driver Heated Seat Relay Drive Circuit Open or Shorted to Ground) - If the driver heated seat relay drive circuit is open or shorted to ground and the DATC module attempts to activate the driver heated seat relay, the DTC will set and the seat will fail to heat or intermittently heat.

Possible Causes
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Heated seat relay
- Heated seat element
- DATC module

Diagnostic Procedure


NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the key is in the ON position. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.

NOTE: The supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
