CAUTION
Hot components
- Risk of burns
-> Let hot components cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.
1. Remove rear wheels.
-> 44051900 Removing and installing wheel - section on "Removing" Removal and Replacement.
2. Remove upper part of heat shield.
-> 261219 Removing and installing heat shield - section on "Removing".
3. Remove ignition coils.
-> 282020 Removing and installing ignition coils - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.
Removing spark plugs
NOTICE
Broken spark plug electrodes
- Bits of electrodes can fall into the combustion chamber
-> Only check electrode gap of spark plugs, but do not bend them.
-> Spark plugs with an incorrect electrode gap must be replaced.

-> Use prescribed tool.
1. Unscrew spark plugs -3- using spark-plug socket wrench Nr.14 and extension Nr.15.
Installing spark plugs
1. Fit spark plugs.
NOTICE
Incorrect tool
- Risk of damage to components
-> Use prescribed tool.
Tools: Use spark-plug socket wrench Nr.14 and extension Nr.15.
1.1. Fit spark plugs and tighten to the prescribed tightening torque.
1.2. New spark plug:
=> Tightening torque: 32 Nm (24 ftlb.)+/-2 Nm (+/-1.5 ftlb.)
1.3. Reinstalled spark plug:
=> Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ftlb.)+3 Nm (+2 ftlb.)
Subsequent work
1. Install ignition coils.
-> 282020 Removing and installing ignition coils - section on "Installing" Service and Repair.
2. Install upper part of heat shield.
-> 261219 Removing and installing heat shield - section on "Installing".
2.1. Fit and tighten two external Torx screws (E10, M6 x 12).
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
3. Fit rear wheels.
-> 44051900 Removing and installing wheel - section on "Installing" Removal and Replacement.
