Information
- Set gap dimensions on cover and accessories in accordance with the gap specifications.
- Given a clearance in the opening that is too large or too small, the movable body or the accessories must be centred accordingly.
- Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points.
- The given values are guidelines which should be observed as far as possible.
- The guidelines apply to repair and assembly work.
- Use star gauges to measure the gap dimensions. Star gauges for body gap dimensions NR.127-1
Installation position rear lid
1. Check position.
1.1. Check gap dimensions on the body -> 559015 Adjusting rear lid - section on "Technical values".
2. Adjust the height of the rear lid with respect to the body.
2.1. Loosen fastening screws -1- on the hinge at the rear lid on both sides so that the lid can still be moved.

2.2. Adjust the height of the lid by moving the lid and ensure that the gap between the lid and roof is parallel -> 559015 Adjusting rear lid - section on "Technical values".

2.3. Tighten fastening screws -1- => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).

3. Check gaps and adjust if necessary.

Information
Make sure that the roof cover does not buckle.
5. Lower the rear roof trim panel.
6. Adjust gap dimensions of rear lid to roof.
6.1. Loosen fastening nuts -2- on the lid hinge at the roof on both sides so that the lid can still be moved.

6.2. Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area) and check the gap dimension.
6.3. Adjust the gap dimension of the rear lid to the roof by moving the lid. -> 559015 Adjusting rear lid - section on "Technical values"

6.4. Tighten fastening nuts -2- => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).

7. Adjust the joint between the lid and side panel.
7.1. Loosen fastening screws -3- on the adjusting elements and move the adjusting clip in completely.

7.2. Loosen fastening screw on the bottom adjusting elements -1- ( -A- ) and press adjusting elements in completely -B-.

7.3. Adjust the joint between the rear lid and side panel by screwing the adjusting elements -4- in or out.

7.4. Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area) and press the adjusting elements.
7.5. Check the setting and repeat the adjustment process if necessary.
Information
- The side adjusting elements of the rear lid must be adjusted so that there is a slight preload when the rear lid is closed completely.
- The preload must be equal on the left and right.
8. Set the side adjusting clip on the adjusting elements.

8.1. Move the adjusting clip in the body to the very outside.
8.2. Close the lid and then open it again.
8.3. Press the body outwards and tighten the fastening screws -3- => Tightening torque: 5.5 Nm (4 ftlb.).
9. Set adjusting elements at the bottom.

9.1. Loosen clamping screw on the adjusting elements.
9.2. Insert adjusting elements -1- approx. 1 cm into the square opening.
9.3. Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area) and then open it again.
9.4. Pull the adjusting elements out again by one notch. -A-
9.5. Tighten the clamping screw. -B-
10. Adjust lower part of lid lock.
10.1. Disconnect battery ground strap. -> 2X00IN Work instructions after disconnecting the battery 2X00IN Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
10.2. Insert lower part of lid lock -1- and screw in fastening screws -2- so that the lower part of the lid lock can still be moved.

10.3. Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area) until the lock engages.
10.4. Open the lid.
10.5. Tighten fastening screws for lower part of rear lid lock => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).

11. Install rear grab handle. -> 683719 Removing and installing rear grab handle - section on "Installing" 683719 Removing and Installing Rear Handle
12. Install C-pillar trim fully. -> 706819 Removing and installing C-pillar trim panel - section on "Installing" 706819 Removing and installing C-pillar trim
13. Install upper part of B-pillar trim panel. -> 70671901 Removing and installing upper part of B-pillar trim panel - section on "Installing" 70671901 Removing and installing upper part of B-pillar trim panel
14. Check position of adjusting elements at the top and bottom.
14.1. Hold a strip of paper on the sealing surface.

14.2. Close the lid.
14.3. Pull strips of paper out of the sealing surfaces.
Information
- It should still be possible to pull the paper strip out when the rear lid is closed. If the paper strip either pulls out too easily or cannot be pulled out, the preload at the adjusting elements must be changed.
Information
To check this, test-drive the vehicle on an uneven stretch of road (bad road surface) during approval.
