The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the resistance of the fuel level sensor to calculate the amount of fuel in the tank and provides a voltage to the fuel level sensor through a resistor network and a return to ground. Diagnostic trouble code P0463 will set if the voltage remains above 4.86 volts for longer than 25 seconds.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0463 will set if the fuel level is less than 3.5% for longer than 25 seconds.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The PCM will default the fuel gauge to empty and turn on the low fuel telltable when DTC P0463 is set.

An open or loose connection (in the signal or return circuits) can cause DTC P0462.
