Transmission Wiring Harness Extension Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting
2. Remove the control valve body cover (2).





Important: DO NOT damage the wiring harness connectors.

3. Disconnect the 8 solenoid harness connectors.





4. Remove the fluid temperature sensor bolt (31).
5. Remove the fluid temperature sensor clamp (49).
6. Remove the fluid temperature sensor (36) and O-ring (32).





7. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission control lever.





8. Remove the transmission control lever (2) and nut.





9. Remove the park/neutral position switch bolt (79).





10. With a twisting motion, remove the complete wiring harness assembly.

Installation Procedure





1. Apply automatic transmission fluid to a new transmission wiring connector O-ring seal (46).
2. Install the new transmission wiring connector O-ring seal (46) onto the transmission wiring harness assembly (33).
3. Install the transmission wiring harness assembly (33) into the transmission case assembly through the wiring harness bore.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the park/neutral position switch bolt (79).
^ Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the transmission control lever (2) and the nut (1).
^ Tighten the nut to 16 Nm (112 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the shift cable to the transmission control lever.





Important: Apply transaxle fluid to the new fluid temperature sensor O-ring.

7. Install the temperature fluid sensor (36) into the valve body.
8. Install the fluid temperature sensor clamp (49).
9. Install the fluid temperature sensor bolt (31).
^ Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
10. Install a new O-ring (32) into the groove of the transaxle fluid temperature sensor (36).
11. Connect the fluid temperature sensor harness connector.





12. Install the control valve body cover (2).
13. Lower the vehicle.

Important: Do not use AF P/N 21005966 or P/N 21019223, these fluids are not compatible with this transaxle. Use Saturn T-IV P/N 22689186.

14. Add fluid to the transaxle as necessary.
15. Start the engine a check for leaks.
