Removing Rust Protection From Service Parts

Removing Rust Protection From Service Parts

Important: Some service parts may have a rust preventative coating on them. This coating must be removed prior to installing the part into the transaxle. All parts should be used immediately after cleaning. Do not let parts sit for more than 6 hours once the rust protection is removed.

The following steps should be followed to remove the rust protection prior to the part installation:

1. Remove the part from the packaging.

Important: When using solvent parts cleaner, review all safety procedures recommended by your supplier, state, and local agencies.

2. Using solvent cleaner and a stiff brush, scrub all areas of the part under a constant flow of solvent or submerge in solvent.
3. Fully flush all internal oil passages with a constant flow of solvent.
4. Wipe the part dry with a clean, lint-free towel.
5. Install the part within 6 hours of removing the rust protection.
