Shift Linkage Assemble

Shift Linkage Assemble

1. Install the gear position guide on the shaft. Press the shaft until the middle groove is located centrally on the opening in the gear position guide.
2. Install the dual interlock on the shaft and install a NEW rollpin.
3. Install the tension spring taut with the spring ends on each side of the pin.
4. Install the lockring. Do not place the preload washer on until the gear-changing mechanism has been fitted in the gear box.

5. If any shift forks, shift shafts, or shift shaft blocks were disassembled, reassemble the shift shafts by driving new retaining pins into the shift forks or shift shaft blocks.

Important: While assembling shafts, ensure that the shift shaft block notches line up.

6. Install all shift shafts partially onto the shift control bracket assembly. Partial insertion of the shift shafts provide considerable end play during the installation of the gear shift mechanism.

Important: Ensure that the gear position mechanism engages the shift blocks.

7. Install the gear position mechanism with the spring ends on each side of the guide lug and the dual interlock in the driver groove.

8. While installing the gear shift mechanism, simultaneously align the following:
* the shift position mechanism's shaft to the shift control bracket assembly hole (1).
* the shift control bracket pin to the shift position mechanism shift pattern (2).
* The brass double position blocker to the shift shaft block notches (3). The brass double position blocker should be aligned properly with the shift cylinder.

9. Set the shift linkage assembly upright to encourage components to settle into position.

10. Align the shift forks with synchronizer sleeves and install the shift linkage to the clutch housing case.
