Synchronizers Cleaning and Inspection

Removal Procedure




1. Inspect the synchronizer blocker ring friction surfaces (1) for wear or damage.
2. Inspect the synchronizer blocker ring teeth (2) for excessive wear.
3. Inspect the synchronizer blocker ring lugs (3) for excessive wear.
4. Inspect the synchronizer springs (4) for wear.
5. Inspect the blocker ring leaf springs (5) for wear.




6. Inspect the gear thrust (1) for wear or scoring.
7. Inspect the gear cone surface (2) for wear.
8. Inspect the clutching teeth (3) for excessive wear, shipping, or cracks.
9. Inspect the gear teeth (4) for uneven wear scoring, galling, or cracks.




10. Install the synchronizer blocker ring to the matching gear.
11. Measure the clearance between the blocker ring and gear in 4 places.
The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for synchronizers:
* The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for the 1st gear synchronizer is 0.8 mm (0.032 in).
* The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for the 2nd gear synchronizer is 0.8 mm (0.032 in).
* The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for the 3rd gear synchronizer is 0.5 mm (0.02 in).
* The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for the 4th gear synchronizer is 0.5 mm (0.02 in).
* The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for the 5th gear synchronizer is 0.5 mm (0.02 in).
* The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for the reverse gear synchronizer is 0.5 mm (0.02 in).
