Transmission Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the cover from the underhood electrical center.





3. Release the forward lamp harness retainer from the ABS modulator bracket, or the proportioning valve bracket, to allow the underhood electrical center to be repositioned adequately.





4. Remove the underhood electrical center bracket from the vehicle and reposition the electrical center (1) to access the bracket.





5. Release the wiring harness (2) retainers (1) above the brake booster, to allow the electrical center to be repositioned adequately.





6. Disconnect the hydraulic clutch hose (3) from the clutch actuator cylinder (2) and the clutch master cylinder (1).
7. Install the engine support fixture.





8. Secure the cooling module to the upper body structure.





9. Remove the upper transmission to mount bolts.
10. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer from the transmission stud.
11. Remove the upper transmission to engine stud and bolt.
12. Remove the frame.
13. Drain the transaxle.
14. Disconnect the drive axle and intermediate shaft from the transmission and secure out of the way.
15. Remove the starter.





16. Disconnect the shift cables (2) from the transmission.





17. Disconnect the backup lamp switch harness connector.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Use the engine support fixture rear hook to lower the powertrain enough to allow clearance between the side rail and powertrain.
20. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
21. Use a transmission jack to secure the transmission, and remove the transmission to engine bolts.
22. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
23. Remove the front transmission mount from the transmission.
24. Remove the rear transmission mount and bracket from the transmission.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the rear transmission mount to the transmission.
2. Install the front transmission mount to the transmission.
3. Use a transmission jack to position the transmission to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Secure the transmission to the engine.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 75 N.m (55 lb ft).





5. Connect the backup lamp switch harness connector.
6. Connect the shift cable to the transmission.
7. Install the starter.
8. Connect the drive axle and intermediate shaft to the transmission.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Use the engine support fixture in order to raise the powertrain assembly.
11. Install the left transmission mount.
12. Install the frame.
13. Remove the engine support fixture.
14. Install the top engine to transmission bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 75 N.m (55 lb ft).

15. Install the top engine to transmission stud.

Tighten
Tighten the stud to 75 N.m (55 lb ft).

16. Connect the wiring harness retainer to the transmission stud.





17. Connect the hydraulic clutch hose to the clutch actuator cylinder.
18. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system.





19. Install the underhood electrical center bracket to the vehicle and install the electrical center (1) into position on the bracket.





20. Secure the forward lamp harness retainer to the ABS modulator bracket, or the proportioning valve bracket.





21. Connect the electrical connector to the brake fluid level sensor, then press forward on the connector position assurance (CPA) tab of the connector to secure.
22. Install the cover to the underhood electrical center.





23. Release the cooling module from the upper body structure.
24. Connect the negative battery cable.
25. Fill the transmission to the proper level.
