Starter Motor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution) .




1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery.

* Remove the ground connection from the ground terminal.
* Loosen the nut.

3. Raise the vehicle by its full height.
4. Remove the ground cable (1) from starter.
Remove the nut.
5. Remove the 2 positive cable (2) starter.
Remove the 2 nuts.




6. Remove the intake manifold bracket (2).

* Disconnect the wiring harness plug of the catalytic converter control oxygen sensor.
* Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1) from the bracket.
* Remove the 2 bolts (3).





7. Remove the starter.
Remove the 2 bolts (1, 2).



Installation Procedure


Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

1. Install the starter.

Tighten the 2 bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

2. Install the intake manifold bracket.

Tighten the 2 bolts to 8 N.m (70 lb in).


* Install the wiring harness plug into the bracket.
* Connect the wiring harness plug for the catalytic converter control oxygen sensor.

3. Install the wiring harness to the starter.

Tighten the 2 nuts to 12.5 N.m (110 lb in).

4. Install the ground cable to the starter.

Tighten the nut to 12.5 N.m (110 lb in).

5. Lower the vehicle by its full height.
6. Connect the battery.
Install the ground connection to the ground terminal.

Tighten the nut to 12.5 N.m (110 lb in).

7. For programming procedures, refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) .
8. Close the hood.
