SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: STEERING PAD: REMOVAL

1. PRECAUTION

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the air bag from working.

3. REMOVE NO.2 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER





(a) Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 2 lower steering wheel cover.

4. REMOVE NO.3 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER

(a) Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 3 lower steering wheel cover.

5. REMOVE STEERING PAD

(a) Using a "torx" socket wrench (T30), loosen the 2 "torx" screws until the groove along the screw circumference fits in the screw case.

(b) Pull the steering pad out of the steering wheel assembly and support the steering pad with one hand, as shown in the illustration.





NOTICE:
When removing the steering pad, take care not to pull the airbag wire harness.

(c) Disconnect the horn ground harness from the steering pad.

(d) Using a screwdriver, disconnect the airbag connectors.

(e) Remove the steering pad.





CAUTION:
* When placing the steering pad assembly, keep the upper surface of the steering pad facing upward.
* Never disassemble the steering pad.
