Removal





2GR-FE COOLING: WATER PUMP: REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

2. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL RH

3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL (for 4WD)

(a) Move the select lever to N.

(b) Check that the parking brake is released.

(c) Remove the rear wheels.

HINT
For 4WD models, make sure to remove the rear wheels after removing the engine mount so as to prevent stress from being applied to the propeller shaft.

4. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER Removal

5. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH Removal

6. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT Service and Repair

7. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

8. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT OPENING COVER Removal

9. REMOVE RADIATOR RESERVE TANK ASSEMBLY Removal

10. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT RH Removal

11. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT Removal

12. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER PULLEY

(a) Remove the bolt and V-ribbed belt tensioner pulley and dust shield.





NOTICE:
* Do not turn the bolt labeled "L" counterclockwise.
* Store the V-ribbed belt tensioner pulley so that the bearing does not get damaged.

13. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY Disassembly

14. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING STAY RH

(a) Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and engine mounting stay RH.





15. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR RH

(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness.





(b) Remove the nut.





(c) Place a wooden block between a jack and the engine.





NOTICE:
Make sure to set a jack as shown in the illustration. Do not place the jack on the oil pan.

(d) Jack up the engine slightly.

(e) Remove the 5 bolts and nut.





(f) Wrap protective tape around the cooler pipe at the location shown in the illustration.





(g) Lower the jack until the No. 1 engine mounting bracket LH is positioned as shown in the illustration, then remove the engine mounting insulator RH.





16. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING SPACER

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and engine mounting spacer.





17. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING STAY NO.2 RH

(a) Remove the bolt and engine mounting stay No. 2 RH.





18. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH

(a) Remove the 6 bolts and mounting bracket.





HINT
Because the bolt (A) cannot be removed from the engine mounting bracket LH, remove the engine mounting bracket LH with the bolt (A) in it.

19. REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY

HINT
Use the same procedure for both No. 2 idler pulley.

(a) w/ Idler Pulley Cover Plate:

(1) Remove the bolt, No. 2 idler pulley cover plate, idler pulley and idler pulley cover plate.





(b) w/o Idler Pulley Cover Plate:

(1) Remove the bolt, No. 2 idler pulley cover plate and idler pulley.





20. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING

(a) Disconnect the 2 water hoses.





(b) Remove the 2 bolts, nut and water inlet housing.

(c) Remove the water inlet housing No. 1 gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring.





21. SEPARATE WATER PUMP PULLEY

(a) Using SST, hold the water pump pulley.

(b) Using SST and union nut wrench, remove the 4 bolts and separate the water pump pulley from the water pump.

SST : 09961-00950

HINT
There is not enough clearance to completely remove the water pump pulley from the water pump shaft. Remove the water pump pulley together with the water pump.

22. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 16 bolts, water pump, water pump gasket and water pump pulley.





HINT
Move the water pump pulley as necessary to remove the bolts behind it.
