Fuel Tank Assembly Overview
1 Fuel Supply Line
• Black.
• Ensure the line is securely seated.
2 Fuel Return Line
• Blue.
• Ensure the line is securely seated.
3 Seal
• Always replace.
• To install, place into the fuel tank opening dry.
• Lubricate with fuel only when installing the fuel delivery unit.
4 Fuel Delivery Unit
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit.
• If the fuel delivery unit was replaced, adapt the Engine Control Module (ECM) to the fuel pump. Refer to "Guided Functions".
• Fuel pump, checking. Refer to => [ Fuel Pump, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
• Note the installed position in the fuel tank. => [ Fuel Delivery Unit Installed Position ].
• With the fuel level sensor.
• fuel level sensor, removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor 2 ] Fuel Level Sensor 2.
• Clean the strainer if contaminated.
5 Locking Ring, 110 Nm
• Ensure the ring securely seated.
• Use the wrench (T10202) for removal and installation.
6 Vent Line
• From the gravity valve to the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister.
• Clipped onto the bracket in the wheel housing.
• To disconnect, press the release button on the connection piece.
7 Cap
• Replace if damaged.
8 Bolt, 1.5 Nm
9 Fuel Filler Door Unit
• With rubber gasket.
10 Ground Connection
• Ensure connection is securely seated.
11 Bolt, 10 Nm
12 Protective Plate
• for the fuel filler pipe.
• Make sure the ground connection is securely seated.
13 Bolt, 10 Nm
14 Wire Bracket
• Clipped onto the protective plate.
15 Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor 2 ] Fuel Level Sensor 2.
• Note the installed position in the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor 2 Installed Position ].
16 Suction Jet Pump
• Clipped onto the fuel level sensor 2.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Suction Jet Pump ] Suction Jet Pump.
17 Fuel Tank
• Support using the engine and transmission jack ( VAG 1383A) when removing.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.
18 Securing Strap
• Note the installed position.
19 Bolt, 25 Nm
• Always replace.
20 Heat Shield
• Riveted to the exhaust system mounting bracket.
21 Bolt, 3 Nm
22 Vent Line
• White
• From the EVAP canister to the EVAP canister purge regulator valve.
• Do not kink.
• To disconnect, press the release button on the connection piece.
• Clipped onto the fuel tank.
23 Vacuum Line
• Green
• From the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) to the intake manifold.
• Clipped onto the fuel tank.
• Ensure the line is securely seated.
24 Fuel Supply Line
• To the fuel rail.
25 Fuel Filter
• Installed position: Arrow points in direction of flow.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Filter ] Fuel Filter.
26 Bolt, 8 Nm
Fuel Delivery Unit Installed Position
• The tab - 2 - on the fuel delivery unit faces toward the arrow mark and must lie between tabs - 1 and 3 - on the fuel tank.
• - Arrow - points in direction of travel.
Fuel Level Sensor 2 Installed Position
• The tab - 2 - on the fuel level sensor 2 faces toward the arrow mark and must be between tabs - 1 and 3 - on the fuel tank.
• - Arrow - points in direction of travel.
