Rear Final Drive Oil Level, Checking or Adding
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Charging Device f/Haldex Clutch (VAS 6291)
Requirement:
• The vehicle must be horizontal.
Checking
- Place the drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) under the rear final drive.
- Remove the drain plug - 1 -.
The oil level is correct when the rear final drive is filled up to the lower edge of the plug hole.
- Install the drain plug - 1 - and tighten it to 15 Nm.
Filling
- Add enough oil using the charging device f/haldex clutch (VAS 6291) until the oil leaks out between the charging device tool adapter and the transmission housing.
Gear oil for the rear final drive is available as a replacement part.
- Remove the filler tool and adapter; a little oil left over will run out.
The oil level is correct when the rear final drive is filled up to the lower edge of the plug hole.
- Install the drain plug - 1 - and tighten it to 15 Nm.
