Steering Column, Handling and Transporting

The correct handling of the steering column must always be observed.

Incorrect handling of steering column may cause damage to steering column and therefore lead to a safety risk.

Correct Handling and Transporting of the Steering Column






Transport the steering column with two hands

Hold the steering column at the upper steering rod tube and in the area of the upper universal joint

The cross support - 1 - must always point upward during transportation so the shaft does not come into contact with the steering column lock - 2 -.

Incorrect Handling of the Steering Column






Transporting at the following components leads to damage to the steering column:

1. Cross support

2. Weight compensation springs

3. Deformation element


Incorrect Handling of the Steering Column with a Safety Risk






The following handling practices lead to damage of the steering column lock - 1 -:

Transporting the steering column with one hand on shaft

Bending joints beyond 90° and coming to a stop on the steering column lock

Placing the shaft on the steering column lock

Placing the steering column on the steering column lock
