Engine Control Module: Service and Repair






Engine Control Module

If it is necessary to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM), connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and perform the "Replace control module" guided function.

Removing

- Turn off the ignition.

- Remove the E-box cover - arrows - inside the engine compartment.






Vehicles with Anti-Theft Protection:






- Remove the bolts - 2 -.

- Remove the locking mechanism - 5 -.

- Disconnect the connectors - 1 and 3 - from the ECM.

Only if the ECM has to be replaced:

- Remove the bolts - 6 - and the bracket - 4 -.

Vehicles without Anti-Theft Protection:

- Disconnect the connectors - 1 and 3 - from the ECM.

Continuation for all Vehicles:






- Push the tabs on the side guides - 3 - carefully toward the outside with a screwdriver - 2 -.

- Remove the ECM - 1 - from the guides - 3 -.

Installing

- Install the ECM - 1 - into the guides - 3 - until it locks.






Vehicles with Anti-Theft Protection:






- Attach the bracket - 4 - to the ECM with the shear bolts - 6 -.

- Tighten the shear bolts - 6 - just enough until the bolt head breaks off.

- Connect the connectors - 1 and 3 - to the ECM.

- Install the locking mechanism - 5 - with shear bolts - 2 -.

- Tighten the shear bolts - 2 - just enough until the bolt head breaks off.

Vehicles without Anti-Theft Protection:

- Connect the connectors - 1 and 3 - to the ECM.
