REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Park the vehicle on level ground, and make sure the parking brake is set. Do not lift the vehicle up.
2. Remove the center cap from the wheel.
^ Six spoke wheel: pull the center cap straight off.
^ Five spoke wheel: remove three screws.
3. Remove the six hub cover mounting bolts.
4. The hub cover is bonded to the hub flange with adhesive. Loosen the bond by prying on the edge of the hub cover. Remove the hub cover.
5. Remove the snap ring and shim. Discard the snap ring.
6. The hub flange is also bonded to the hub flange with adhesive. Pry on the edge of the flange to loosen the bond, then remove the hub flange.
7. Inspect the lock washer and the three retaining screws. Check the tightness of the retaining screws.
^ If all three screws are missing or have fallen out, or the lock washer is missing, you must contact Tech Line at (800) 228-7210 for inspection and repair instructions.
^ If the screws and lock washer are there, but or more of the screws is loose, replace all three screws (see PARTS INFORMATION). Do not remove all three screws at the same time; rather, replace the screws one at a time to prevent the hub nut from loosening. Continue to step 8.
^ If all three screws are tight, continue to step 8.
8. Slide the flange onto the axle. Hold it in place on the hub with one of the hub cover mounting bolts.
9. Slide the shim and a new snap ring (see PARTS INFORMATION) onto the axle. Thread a 8 x 1.25 bolt into the end of the axle. Pull on the bolt to make sure the axle is extended, then install the snap ring. Make sure the snap ring is fully seated in its groove. Remove the hub cover mounting bolt and the 8 x 1.25 bolt.
10. Remove the old adhesive from the hub cover.
11. Apply a thin coat of Honda Liquid Silicone Gasket HT (see REQUIRED MATERIALS) to the cover-to-flange mating surface.
12. Install the hub cover with the original mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 59 N-m (43 lb-ft).
13. Reinstall the wheel center cap.
14. Repeat steps 2 through 13 on the other front hub.
15. Return the vehicle to the owner. No center-punch or any other type of campaign completion labeling is needed.
