Poor or no sound with XM radio (Audio unit does display XM channels) (with ELS audio, with AcuraLink)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connector for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check the radio reception in an open area. Poor reception/interference can be caused by tall buildings, mountains, or high-voltage power lines are nearby.
- If you can only tune to channel 000, 001, 174, and 247, make sure the audio-navigation unit is set to channel mode (see Owner's Manual), if it is set to channel mode, call XM Radio client support, and check the account activation status.
- If you replace the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver), the AcuraLink must be reactivated by Acura Client Services.
- Check for other error codes Audio System Error Codes, and check the XM Antenna Signal Reception Level.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio system, and press the XM button to select the XM radio.
3. Check for an error message on the display.
Are there any messages displayed?
YES -
Go to Error Codes Audio System Error Codes.�
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Disconnect audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P).
5. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver). Replace the affected shielded harness.�
6. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
7. Check for continuity between body ground and audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver). Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Go to step 8.
8. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver). Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Substitute a known-good AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) AcuraLink Control Unit (XM Receiver) Removal/Installation, then reconnect all connectors, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, update the AcuraLink control unit Programming and Relearning if it does not have the latest software, then recheck. If the software is the latest, replace the original AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) AcuraLink Control Unit (XM Receiver) Removal/Installation. If symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.�
