Owner's Letter

January 1989

SUBJECT: RECALL CAMPAIGN GK

Dear Audi Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Audi has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 1984 through 1988 model Audi 5000 Turbo and some early production 1989 model Turbo vehicles. Your car is one of the vehicles involved in this recall.

Defect Description Audi has found that the fuel system's injector seals may

harden due to high temperature and alcohol in some fuels. A hardened seal may not perform its function properly and could allow fuel to escape into the engine compartment as a result of turbo pressure. Fuel escaping in this manner could drip onto hot engine components and without warning cause an engine compartment fire.

Remedy Your Audi dealer will replace the engine's fuel injector

seals with improved seals, replace the valve cover gasket as well as certain fuel lines, and install other components designed to better insulate the engine compartment against the risk of fire.
Your Action Please contact your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible for an appointment so that the necessary work can be performed. The repair work will be free of charge and will take approximately five to six hours. An initial supply of repair parts will be available at dealers on or about February 6, 1989.

charge within a reasonable time, you may call or write to:
