Removal of the control arm/ball joint from the wheel bearing housing must be done as follows, not as shown in the Repair Manual.
This is especially important for vehicles that have been in service for a long time. The ball joint pins on such vehicles may have a very tight fit in the housing.

Work sequence
- remove clamping bolt
- use length of pipe approx. 1.5 meters (5 ft.) and press down on stabilizer bar to separate joint (arrow)
Note
End of pipe must contact subframe near rear mount.
CAUTION
The slit in the wheel bearing housing must NOT be widened with a chisel or other tool. A commercial rust solvent may be necessary to assist separation of the joint.
