Technician Safety Information
Observe the following safety guidelines to prevent personal injury and/or equipment damage.
1. Do not touch or disconnect ignition cables when engine is running or cranking
2. Do not disconnect any ignition wires (high or low voltage) unless ignition is OFF.
3. Do not connect or disconnect any test equipment to the ignition system unless the ignition os switched OFF.
4. Do not connect any noise suppression condensers, or test lamps to coil terminal 1 (-).
5. When disconnecting the high voltage cable from the distributor (to keep the engine from starting), always connect it directly to ground with a jumper wire. The engine must not be cranked without the coil wire being grounded.
6. Fast charging should only be used for emergency starting, and then for only 15 seconds at a time. Allow at least one minute for starter to cool down between starting attempts.
7. Never supply the car with more than 16.5 vdc. Excessive voltage will permanently damage sensitive electronic components throughout the car.
8. Do not replace the ignition coil with a conventional coil. Damage to the ignition control unit will result.
9. Battery must be completely disconnected when using any electrical welding equipment.
10. If the car is heated to more than 80°C (176°F) such as from a paint booth, or steam cleaner, allow components to cool down before starting the engine.
11. Do not wash or steam clean the engine while it is running, or while the ignition is turned ON.
12. Never disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
13. Never apply voltage to the control unit to simulate output signals, or strike an arc to test for voltage.
