Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Testing and Inspection

1. With the coolant at least 20°C (68°F), remove connector from the coolant temperature sensor, Fig. 19.
2. Connect an ohmmeter between the coolant temperature sensor and battery ground.
Resistance should be 60 - 1000 ohms.
Replace sensor if resistance is not within specifications.
3. If resistance is OK, check the wiring to the control unit.
4. Remove the control unit cover (located in the passenger side footwell), and disconnect the harness plug from the control unit.
5. Connect an ohmmeter between terminal 10 on the harness plug, and the disconnected wire from the temperature sensor.
Resistance should be 0 ohms.
Repair wiring as necessary.
6. If the sensor and the wiring are OK, replace the control unit.
