Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Throttle Full Open Switch: Testing and Inspection

1. Disconnect the harness plug from the throttle switches on the throttle housing.
2. Connect a voltmeter between terminal 2 of the harness plug, and ground.
3. With the ignition ON, battery voltage should be available.
4. If voltage is not available, repair wiring.
5. Connect voltmeter between terminals 2 and 3 of the throttle switch.
6. With the throttle plate in the idle position, the switch should be open (infinite ohms).
7. Open the throttle to the full throttle stop. The full throttle switch should close (0 ohms).
8. Adjust or replace switch as necessary.
9. If throttle switch is OK, check the wiring between the throttle switch harness plug, and both the ignition and injection control units. Pin designations are:
1 -- 7 (ignition control unit)
1 -- 28 (injection control unit)
3 -- 9 (ignition control unit)
3 -- 31 (injection control unit)
10. Resistance between the terminals should be less than 0.2 ohms. Repair wiring as necessary.
