Ignition Power Stage: Description and Operation

Ignition Coil With Power Output Stage:

The Power Output Stages are mounted to the engine compartment firewall, near their respective distributor.

V8 Ignition Components:

V8 Spark Plug Wire Routing:

The left side power output stage controls the left side ignition coil. The left coil connects to the left distributor and fires spark plugs 2-3-5-8.

The right side power output stage controls the right side ignition coil. The right coil connects to the right distributor and fires spark plugs 1-4-6-7.

The power output stage is an electronic switch that controls its respective ignition coil's discharge. The Motronic control module, based on inputs from the Camshaft Position Sensor and the crankshaft position sensor, will supply a signal to the power output stage for this purpose.
