Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

Steering lock housing and lock cylinder, removing/installing

- disconnect battery ground strap
- remove steering wheel and steering column switches
- remove instrument cluster
- remove trim under left side of instrument panel
- remove glovebox
- remove instrument panel cross member
- remove connector from ignition switch




- remove lock housing securing screw (Torx)
- remove steering lock housing




- drill one 3 mm diameter hole in steering lock housing where-a and b intersect
a - 12.5 mm (0.50 in)
b - 8.0 mm (0.30 in)

CAUTION! DO NOT drill into housing too deep. Steering lock housing is only approximately 2 mm (0.08 in) thick. Excessive drilling will cause lock cylinder damage.




- remove lock cylinder by pushing in retaining spring (arrow) with a mandrel

Note: When installing lock cylinder, push into steering lock housing until retaining spring engages

- install lock cylinder and steering lock housing in reverse order of removal
