Control Module, Coding


NOTE:
- If the correct coding for the vehicle is not displayed, or if the control module has been replaced, the control module must be coded.
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or VAG1551 scan tool and select engine electronics control module by entering address word "01 ". When doing this the ignition must be switched on. [1][2]Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks


The display of VAG1551 will show the control module coding (example).

The relevant vehicle coding must be displayed, note coding table.


Coding variations of Engine Control Module (ECM)







Determine the code number according to the following example:







If an incorrect coding is displayed:
- Press -> button.

When indicated on display

- Press buttons "07" for the function "Code Control Module" and press Q button to confirm input.

When indicated on display


Code Control Module Q
Input code number XXXXX (0-32000)


- Input control module coding according to coding table and press -Q- button to confirm input.

If this message appears:


Function unknown or ->
cannot be carried out currently


Check in parts catalog if the correct control module has been installed (part number). It also possible that an incorrect code number was entered. If necessary repeat coding.

- Press -> button.
