OBD Program Safety Precautions

If the use of test and measuring equipment is required during test drives, the following precautions must be observed:

CAUTION!
• The test and measurement equipment must always be secured on the rear seat and operated from there by a second person.

• If the test and measurement equipment is operated from the passenger seat, the person sitting there could be injured in an accident as the result of deployment of the passenger side airbag.

In order to prevent injuries to persons and/or destruction of electrical and electronic components, the following precautions must be observed:

• Attach measurement and test equipment terminals only with the ignition switched OFF.

• With some tests it may happen that the control module detects and saves a trouble code. For this reason, the DTC memory must be scanned and if necessary deleted after completing all tests and repairs.

• Disconnecting and attaching battery terminals must only be carried out with the ignition switched OFF, otherwise the Transmission Control Module (TCM) can be damaged.
