A/C System Components Outside Passenger Compartment





1 Sun roof with solar cells

Checking function of solar cells. Refer to => [ Solar Roof Function ] Description and Operation

Removing and installing.

Depending on setting in MMI (Multi Media Interface), the sunroof closes as soon as front A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) switches over to air recirculation mode automatic air recirculation via air quality sensor or manual air recirculation by operating the air recirculation button. This function is equipment-dependent, its introduction has not yet been finalized. => Owner's Manual

2 Forced air extractor

Fitted on left and right beneath rear bumper

Sealing lips of vent frame must move freely and close automatically

To ensure proper functioning of passenger compartment ventilation, air ducts must not be blocked by luggage compartment lining

3 Condensate drain hose

1 condensate drain each for driver's and front passenger's side.

4 Control Motor Door Motor (V113)

With Recirculation Door Motor Position Sensor (G143)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Recirculation Door Motor ]

5 Fresh Air Intake Duct Temperature Sensor (G89)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fresh Air Intake Duct ] Service and Repair

Checking, Resistance Value Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

6 Air Flow Door Motor (V71)

With Back Pressure Door Motor Position Sensor (G113)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Air Intake Shroud with Air Flow Door ]

7 Service connection

Low pressure side

For measuring and emptying.

Cap with seal; always to be screwed on

8 Outside Air Temperature Sensor (G17)

Removing bumper.

Unplug connector at temperature sensor and unclip from mount in air duct

Measured value of Outside Air Temperature Sensor (G17) is evaluated by Instrument Cluster Control Module (J285) and transmitted via Comfort CAN-Bus system to front A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function

9 Pump-valve unit

Consists of Left Heat Regulating Valve (N175) and Right Heat Regulating Valve (N176) and Coolant Pump (V50)

Replace

10 Air Quality Sensor (G238)

11 Plenum chamber water drain

12 Heated Windshield (Z2)

Actuation is effected via Heated Windshield Control Module (J505) (installed in luggage compartment on right beneath Battery (A). Refer to => [ Heated Windshield ] Heated Windshield

Removing and installing front windshield.

13 Union in Refrigerant Pipe with Restrictor

Only open the threaded connection when the refrigerant circuit is empty (drain refrigerant circuit).

14 Service connection

High pressure side

For measuring, emptying and filling.

Cap with seal; always to be screwed on

15 Reservoir

Only remove when the refrigerant circuit is empty.

16 A/C Compressor Regulator Valve (N280)

17 Compressor

Removing compressor from bracket and re-installing in vehicles with 6 cylinder. engine, 8 cylinder MPI engine or 8 cylinder diesel engine. Refer to => [ Compressor, Removing from Bracket, 6 Cylinder, 8 Cylinder MPI and 8
Cylinder Diesel ] Service and Repair

Removing compressor from bracket and re-installing in vehicles with 12 cylinder engine. Refer to => [ Compressor from Bracket, 12 Cylinder ] Service and Repair

Compressor, removing and installing in vehicles with 8 cylinder FSI engine. Refer to=> [ Compressor, 8 Cylinder FSI ] Service and Repair

Compressor, removing and installing in vehicles with 10 cylinder engine. Refer to => [ Compressor, S8 10 Cylinder ] Service and Repair.

Replacing compressor drive unit vehicles with 8 cylinder. FSI engine and 10 cylinder engine. Refer to => [ Compressor Drive Unit ] Compressor Drive Unit

The type of compressor differs depending on the engine 6, 8 , 10 or 12 cylinder. Engine, diesel or gasoline engine.

Different refrigerant oil capacities are designated depending on the compressor type ("6 SEU 14", "7 SEU 16" or " 7 SEU 17") => Refrigerant R134a - Servicing

18 High Pressure Sensor (G65)

Function, removing and installing. Refer to => [ High Pressure Sensor ] Removal and Replacement

The sensor measured value is displayed in the "Read measured value block" function for the Climatronic Control Module (J255) front A/C control head. 19 Condenser

Only remove when the refrigerant circuit is empty; bring the vehicle to a workshop with the necessary tools and qualified personnel => Refrigerant R134a - Servicing.

Different versions of the power steering fluid cooler is installed too depending on vehicle equipment.

20 Coolant Fan (V7)

Request to switch on coolant fan is transmitted to engine control module by front A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) via CAN bus system. Engine Control Module (ECM) then actuates the fans or the Coolant Fan Control (FC) Control Module (J293)Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

The respective Engine Control Module (ECM) switches Coolant Fans (via Coolant Fan Control (FC) Control Module (J293)) continuously to desired output. Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Different versions are installed depending on vehicle equipment. .

21 Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J126)

22 Fresh Air Blower (V2)

23 Dust and pollen filter

24 Label

Indicates type of refrigerant and intended capacity

The capacity of refrigerant R134a and additional information regarding work on the refrigerant circuit can be found in => Refrigerant.



The label was discontinued on some vehicles from model year 2003.

25 Evaporator

Only remove when the refrigerant circuit is empty; bring the vehicle to a workshop that has the necessary tools and qualified personnel.
