Immobilizer - Components/Key Adaptation Not Possible
57 08 102015057/2
November 14, 2008.
Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 57 number 07-04 dated May 21, 2007 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
96 Adaptation of replaced Immobilizer components and/or new key adaptation is not possible
Condition
- Adaptation of replaced Immobilizer components cannot be carried out.
- Additional keys cannot be adapted into the immobilizer system.
- When using Guided Fault Finding for adaptation, the test plan fails and displays an error message: The data from the control unit for access and start authorization could not be read. The test cannot be continued. Attempts to read data from the vehicle authorization system fail.
Technical Background
The two remote control keys that were delivered with the vehicle do not allow access permission of immobilizer components (access start control unit, engine control unit, and transmission control unit) and prevent addition keys from being added to the immobilizer system.
Production Solution
Correctly programmed remote control keys provided with new vehicles.
Service
1. Prior to replacing a defective control unit (access start, engine, or transmission), replace both remote control keys that were delivered with the vehicle.
2. If the customer wants additional keys, replace both remote control keys that were delivered with the vehicle prior to adapting the new keys.
3. It is not necessary to replace either the valet key or emergency (wallet) key as neither one causes the error. Adapt both of these keys together with the new remote control keys.
When adapting the keys, start with either the emergency or valet key as either one of these will activate 15 power, which will speed up the adaptation process.
Tip:
Do not use the old remote control keys during the adaptation process; otherwise, the test plan in Guided Fault Finding will fail.
4. After adapting the new remote control keys, destroy the old remote control keys and return them to the customer.
