Removing Front Seat With Faulty Control Module Or Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis Tester
• Airbag Adapter (VAS 6235)
or
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Airbag Adapter (VAS 6280)
• Move the seat up if possible.
• Seat is shown without upholstery and without backrest in picture for the sake of a better illustration.
Removing
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components General Safety Precautions ] .
- Remove the bolt - 3 -.
- Disconnect screw - 4 - and nut - 6 - at threaded connection.
Loosen bolts - 2 - (quantity 4) only after checking electrical or electronic components and wires.
After loosening screws - 2 -, lower seat pan frame - 7 - including seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) must be replaced with the transverse member.
- Move the seat forward. Remove the steering wheel if necessary.
Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
• Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.
- Perform the following tests:
• Check fuse.
• Check voltage at connector station, perform Fault Finding if necessary.
• Check voltage to control module.
• Check the voltage to the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288).
- Replace the fuse if faulty.
- If there is no voltage at the connector station, repair or replace the wire.
- Replace the control module if faulty. Refer to => [ Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module (J136) or Passenger Memory Seat Control Module (J521) ] Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module (J136) or Passenger Memory Seat Control Module (J521).
- If the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) is faulty: Replace the lower seat frame - 7 - with the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) and transverse member. Refer to => [ Seat Pan, Power Front Seats ] Seat Pan, Power Front Seats.
Continue removing only if the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) is faulty
- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on.
- Remove the bolts - 2 - (quantity 4).
- Disconnect seat fore and aft adjustment connector - 9 - at motor.
- Tip front seat back.
- Slide seat until screws - 1 - (quantity: 4) become visible.

8 Driver seat console

- Connect Airbag Adapter (VAS 6235) or (VAS 6280). Refer to => [ Connecting Airbag Adapter ] Connecting Airbag Adapter.
- With help from a second technician, lift the front seat out of vehicle.
- Separate the lower frame - 7 - from the upper frame - 5 -. Refer to => [ Seat Pan, Power Front Seats ] Seat Pan, Power Front Seats.
- Replace lower seat pan frame - 7 - with the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) with the transverse member - 9 -. Refer to => [ Seat Pan, Power Front Seats ] Seat Pan, Power Front Seats.
Installing
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components General Safety Precautions ] .
Installation of the seat is in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Clean nut threads before installing new screws.
- Insert new screws.
- Follow screw installation sequence. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.
- Install the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.
Tightening Specifications
• Tightening torque for screws, refer to - 1 -: => [ Driver Seat Overview ] Driver Seat Overview or => [ Passenger Seat Overview ] Passenger Seat Overview.
• Bolt tightening specification - 3 -: refer to=> [ Seat Pan Overview ] Seat Pan Overview.
• Bolt tightening specification - 5 -: refer to=> [ Seat Pan Overview ] Seat Pan Overview.
