Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

- Remove seat. Refer to => [ Power Front Memory Seat ] Power Front Memory Seat.

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove side trim on sill side. Refer to => [ Side Trim, Sill Side ] Side Trim, Sill Side.

- Remove side trim on tunnel side. Refer to => [ Side Trim, Tunnel Side ] Side Trim, Tunnel Side.

- Disengage retaining strip - 1 - from seat pan - 10 -.

Without modular wiring routing, through August 2005

- Disconnect connectors and disconnect cables from spring mat. Refer to => [ Spring Mat with Seat Pan Wiring Harness ].

With modular wiring routing

Vehicles with modular wiring routing have a continuous wire from side airbag to connector station.

- Disconnect side airbag connector at connector station. Refer to => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Power Front Memory Seats, From November 2004.

- Remove corrugated tube. Refer to => [ Modular Wiring Routing with Corrugated Tube on Front Seat ] Standard Front Seat, From November 2004

Procedure for all vehicles

- Remove screw - 8 -.

- Turn bracket - 9 - upward.

- Remove bolts - 5 - (Qty. 4).

- Tip backrest - 1 - forward on seat.

- Push cushion aside and carefully disconnect wiring harness - 3 - from seat pan - 10 -.

- Remove backrest - 2 -.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. When doing so, note the following:

- Cut threads in backrest frame before installing screws - 5 - (Qty. 4).

- Always replace bolts - 5 - (Qty. 4).

- Secure tabs - 7 - on footwell cover to spring mat of seat pan.

- for seats with seat memory: Perform a basic setting for backrest or seat after installing seat in vehicle.

1 Side Airbag Connector

only on vehicles without modular wiring routing through August 2005

- Press in catches on connectors - 4 -, - 5 - and - 6 - on left and right and disconnect connectors.

- Disconnect harness connector for side airbag - 1 -. Refer to => [ Disconnecting Side Airbag Connector, without Modular Wiring Routing, through August 2005 ].

- Remove clip - 2 -.

- Loosen wires at cable tie clips - 3 -.

Disconnecting Side Airbag Connector, without Modular Wiring Routing, through August 2005





- Press catch - 1 - in direction of arrow and disconnect connector for side airbag - 2 -.
