Basic Setting

Basic Setting

- With the ignition switched off, connect the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) e.g. with the diagnostic cable (VAS 5051/5A) and the K-wire adapter (VAS 6017B) (or the K-wire adapter (VAS 6017A)) to the 16-pin data link connector (DLC) => [ VAS 5051A, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] VAS 5051A, Connecting and Selecting Functions.

- Switch ignition on.

- Select Address word "08" for A/C heater/electronics => [ VAS 5051A, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] VAS 5051A, Connecting and Selecting Functions.

Requirements:

The DTC memory was checked, displayed faults were eliminated, and the DTC memory was erased => [ Erasing DTC Memory, Ending Output ] Erasing DTC Memory, Ending Output.

The instrument cluster control module (J285) is coded and adapted according to specification. Refer to => [ A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding ] A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding, => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "guided fault finding" function.

The A/C system is switched on ("Econ" or "Auto" operating mode).

- Check the coding of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head and correct as needed.

The currently valid coding is displayed in the measured value block (display group "019") => [ A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding ] A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding.

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

- Select function "04 - Basis Setting".

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - indicates request to input display group.

Display field - 2 - shows input keyboard.

- Enter "01" or "001" for "display group number 001" via the input keyboard in display field - 2 - and confirm by pressing the Q button.

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

The following control motors are not activated and their current feedback value is displayed in display field "1". The control motors are currently arranged as follows:

1st position: Left Temperature Door Motor (V158)

2nd position: Right temperature flap motor (V159 )

3rd position: Defroster flap motor (V107)

4th position: Central Air Door Motor (V70)

5th position: Back pressure flap motor (V71) (only in vehicles with steering on the left, in vehicles with steering on the right without a control motor, "255" indicates that no control motor is connected).

6th position: Control motor Door Motor (V113)

The coding entered in the instrument cluster control module (J285) is queried via the comfort data bus system and the settings intended for the A/C system are accepted => [ A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding ] A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding, (the currently valid coding is displayed in the measured value block, display group "019"), => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "guided fault finding" function.

End positions of control motors (resistance values at stop) are stored in A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) (resistance value of potentiometers installed in control motors) and used for further regulation.

Once control motors have reached both end stops, they are moved again from one stop to the other. During this, the adjustment time is measured and stored in A/C control head Climatronic Control Module ( J255) in the event an emergency running is necessary.

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Movements of the control motors can be followed on the display (display field - 1 -) (the feedback values in the display fields " 1" through "6" change).

Wait until "0" is displayed for the indicated feedback values in display field - 1 -.

If "0" is displayed in the display fields, basic setting is completed.

In the case of vehicles with steering on the right, no back pressure flap motor (V71) is installed. Therefore, " 255" is displayed in these vehicles in the 5th position during the basic setting (open circuit). As soon as the basic setting for other control motors ends, this display jumps to "0".

By clicking the <- button, you will return to the selection menu.

If a malfunction is detected at a potentiometer of a control motor during Basic Setting, a substitution value is stored as the adaptation value (learned value for this potentiometer) and displayed in the corresponding measuring value block. The fault "adaptation limit exceeded" is stored in DTC memory for this control motor.

When introducing the basic setting, the temperature display unit transmitted by the comfort data bus system is read and the unit (°C or °F) set in the instrument cluster control module (J285) is accepted. By pressing the recirculation button and the temperature button + at the same time for the left side for longer than 2 seconds, the display of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head can be switched.

Pressing button - 2 - changes to a different display group.

Press button - 3 - to change to a different function (e.g. from "Basic Setting" to "Read Measuring Value Block " and back again).

- Check DTC memory. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Interrogating ] DTC Memory, Interrogating.

- After displaying and printing the last fault, delete the faults according to the DTC table. Refer to => [ DTC Table ] DTC Memory, Interrogating.

Perform the basic setting again if a malfunction was detected and repaired.
