Accident Vehicles and Vehicles Pulling to One Side

Accident vehicles and vehicles pulling to one side

Vehicles pulling to one side
This may be due to the rack in the steering gear not being positioned exactly in the center when driving in a straight line.

This is enough to result in slight hydraulic steering assistance in one direction, which causes the vehicle to pull to the left or right.

Always check center position of steering rack when performing wheel alignment on a vehicle which "pulls to one side".

The rack must be positioned exactly in the center of the steering gear when adjusting the toe setting or the toe-constant.

Accident vehicles
Check center position of steering on these vehicles before checking or adjusting the toe settings or toe-constant "S".

Steering centering bolt VAS 6224 must be installed when performing wheel alignment on such vehicles.

Otherwise, the steering rack may not be located in the center position.

Checking center position of steering rack
- Set steering to center position according to instructions given by wheel alignment computer.
- Insert steering centering bolt VAS 6224 in order to hold steering rack in center position.
- Check that steering wheel is positioned as horizontally as possible on steering column when wheels are in "straight ahead" position.
- Re-install steering wheel in correct position if necessary.

Otherwise, the steering rack may not be located in the centered position.

If steering wheel is repositioned on these vehicles, zero compensation must be performed for steering angle sensor G85. Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system. VAS 5051A
