Seat Height Adjustment Motors

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

- Remove seat. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.

- Attach seat to Fixture For Seat Repair (VAS 6136 ).

- Remove tunnel side trim. Refer to => [ Trim and Assembly Cover, Sill Side ] Trim and Assembly Cover, Sill Side.

- Remove tunnel side trim pane. Refer to => [ Trim, Tunnel Side ] Trim, Tunnel Side.

- Remove front backrest. Refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Power Front Memory Seats, From November 2004.

- Disconnect electrical connector - 4 - on Driver's Seat Height Adjustment Motor (V245) - 2 - or Front Passenger's Seat Height Adjustment Motor (V246).





- Disconnect seat pan upper frame - 1 - from lower frame - 3 -. Refer to => [ Seat Pan, Disassembling and Assembling ] Power Front Memory Seats, From November 2004.

- Remove seat pan upper frame with cover and upholstery from lower frame.

- Remove the bolts - 2 -.





- Remove Driver's Seat Height Adjustment Motor ( V245)- 1 - or Front Passenger's Seat Height Adjustment Motor (V246) toward center of seat from seat pan lower frame - 3 -.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. Observe the following when doing so:

- Ensure clip - A - and plastic toothed segment collar - 2 - as well as locking pins - B arrows - are inserted correctly in holes on fitting - 1 -.





- Ensure plastic toothed segment - 2 - is clipped to fitting - 1 - correctly.

Plastic toothed segment collar - arrow C - must contact fitting - 1 - evenly.

- Ensure locking pins - A arrows - are inserted correctly in holes - B arrows - on link plate - 1 -.





Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.

- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION!
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect battery ground wire with ignition switched on.

- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75 ) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).
