Electrical and Electronic Components and Component Locations

Data Link Connector (DLC)

Location: Data Link Connector (DLC) is located beneath knee bolster on left of steering wheel.

The following listed components can be tested in the "Guided Fault Finding" with the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system (VAS 5051 A).

Mechatronic unit, Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J217), Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch (F125), Sensor for transmission RPM (G182) and Sender for transmission output RPM (G195)

Location: The mechatronic unit is bolted to the underside of the transmission housing and is covered by the transmission oil pan.

The mechatronic unit incorporates the hydraulic control, the Transmission Control Module (TCM), the Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch and the sensors and actuators as a complete synchronized unit. Included are:

Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J217)

Multi-Function Transmission Range Switch (F125)

Transmission Input Speed (RPM) Sensor (G182)

Transmission Output Speed (RPM) Sensor (G195)

The "mechatronic" unit can only be replaced as a complete unit.

All components mentioned are tested by On Board Diagnostics (OBD).

- Mechatronic unit, removing and installing. Refer to => [ Mechatronic ] Mechatronic.

Internal transmission wiring harness

Location: The wiring harness - A - with connector - C - is attached to the mechatronic unit - B -.

- Removing and installing wiring harness. Refer to => [ Wiring Harness in Transmission ] Service and Repair.

Selector Lever Position Display (Y6 )

Location: Integrated into instrument cluster

The Transmission Range (TR) Display (Y6) can only be replaced together with instrument cluster.

Tiptronic Switch (F189)

Location: Tiptronic Switch (F189) is integrated into circuit board - 1 - of symbol insert, which is located in shift mechanism cover.

It consists of 3 Hall sensors that are controlled by a magnet on the cover strip transverse slide.

1 Tip-down sensor
2 Sensor for Tiptronic recognition
3 Tip-up sensor

If malfunctioning, start by checking whether solenoid - C - is fixed correctly to cross slide masking panel, replace masking panel if necessary. Symbol insert with integrated circuit board must only be replaced after wiring is checked. For vehicles with multi-function steering wheel, also buttons on steering wheel and corresponding wire connections must be checked.

Ignore - A - and - B -.
