Vehicles With Automatic Headlight Range Control, Self Leveling Sensor

Vehicles with automatic headlight range control, self leveling sensor
Vehicles with gas discharge lamps have automatic headlight range control as standard equipment.

The automatic headlight range control requires information regarding compression and rebound travel at the front and rear suspension in order to function correctly.

For this purpose the position of the lower left link in relation to the body is transferred to the vehicle Left Front Level Control System Sensor G78 via a coupling rod. This transmits electrical signals to the Headlamp Range Control Module J431.

At the rear axle, the Left Rear Level Control System Sensor G76 sends signals to Headlamp Range Control Module J431

These signals are required for calculating the vehicle level.

The automatic headlight range control reacts to changes in the suspension height (attitude of the vehicle).

Note:
^ For further information regarding function description can be found in Self Study Programme No. 192.

The vehicle level can change as a result of the following situations:

^ Trailer operation

^ Different payloads; vehicle empty, vehicle partly or fully loaded

^ Slow or fast driving

CAUTION!
Adjust headlights.

The basic headlight setting must always be checked when:

^ Track control link was removed and installed or replaced,

^ Installation work was performed on vehicle level sensor,

^ Vehicle level sensor was replaced,

^ Retaining clip for coupling rod on track control link has been released.
